Manav Suthar Scripts History on Test Debut as India Crush Afghanistan by Record Margin

Manav Suthar produced a dream Test debut with a five-wicket haul as India recorded the biggest victory in their Test history, defeating Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in Mullanpur. The young left-arm spinner joined an elite list of Indian debutants and played a pivotal role in India's record-breaking triumph ahead of the upcoming ODI series.

India registered the biggest victory by runs margin in their Test cricket history as debutant Manav Suthar delivered a sensational performance against Afghanistan in Mullanpur. On his first international appearance for India, the 23-year-old left-arm spinner etched his name into the record books with a remarkable five-wicket haul that played a decisive role in India's historic triumph.

After winning the toss, India declared their first innings at a commanding 564 for 8. Afghanistan struggled to respond against a disciplined Indian bowling attack led by Suthar, who claimed 6 wickets for 33 runs in the first innings. Afghanistan were dismissed for 152, prompting India to enforce the follow-on.

Suthar's performance made him only the fifth Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut. He also became the first Indian cricketer since Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the feat in 2011 to record a five-for in his maiden Test appearance.

Among Indian bowlers, only Narendra Hirwani has produced better figures on Test debut. Hirwani claimed eight wickets in each innings against the West Indies in 1988, finishing with match figures of 16 for 136, which remains India's best bowling performance by a debutant in Test cricket.

The young spinner announced his arrival in international cricket immediately, striking with only the fourth ball of his debut. Afghanistan batter Abdul Malik attempted to play across the line but managed only a top edge, which was safely caught by Mohammad Siraj. Suthar ended the second day with three wickets before adding three more on the third day.

His fifth wicket was a classic example of left-arm spin bowling. The delivery pitched on the leg side, turned sharply, beat the defence of the experienced Rahmat Shah, and crashed into the stumps. Rahmat had scored 60 runs before being dismissed.

India continued to dominate proceedings and wrapped up the contest on the third day. Afghanistan were bowled out for 112 in their second innings, handing India a crushing victory by an innings and 300 runs.

The result surpassed all previous Indian Test victories by innings margin. India's earlier biggest wins came against the West Indies by an innings and 272 runs in 2018, Afghanistan by an innings and 262 runs in 2018, Bangladesh by an innings and 239 runs in 2007, and Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs in 2017.

Suthar had been considered a strong contender for a place in the Indian team for the past two years. Known for his ability to generate sharp turn and drift, the left-arm spinner showcased his skill and temperament on the biggest stage, producing a memorable debut performance that helped India secure a landmark victory.

The two teams will meet again in a three-match One-Day International series beginning on June 13. India's record-breaking win and Suthar's historic debut have provided a significant boost ahead of the upcoming limited-overs contest.
